The transformation begins for the historic St. Charles Church.
Ottawa, Ontario: Ottawa Mayor, Jim Watson and City Councillors, Mathieu Fleury & Tobi Nussbaum joined with ModBox, partners, and community members on May 24th 2018 at 5pm to celebrate groundbreaking at St. Charles Market, a mixed-use development surrounding the historic St. Charles Church.
“I predict this is going to be one of the most exciting redevelopment projects in the entire city of Ottawa.” Jim Watson, Mayor of Ottawa.
Located in the heart of Beechwood Village in the historic St. Charles Church at 140 Beechwood Ave., St. Charles Market will consist of 56 horizontal homes (condominiums), including three townhomes and ground floor commercial spaces. The new development literally wraps around the century old heritage property. The church itself will be reimagined as a gourmet marketplace and restaurant. “Half of the property will be left undeveloped, making room for a beautifully landscaped forecourt that will once again serve as a community gathering place for events.” Chantal Smith, Modbox Director of Sales and Marketing.
Groundbreaking marks the beginning of the transformation that will breathe new life into St. Charles Market which will serve once again as a community hub. “St. Charles Market is so central to the community and is an interesting and exciting way to revitalize such an important property.” Darryl Squires, ModBox CEO.
“The long history of the church and the collective memory of the community presents an opportunity and an obligation to think long term and to design an ever-evolving community hub.” Andrew Reeves, Principal Partner, Sr. Architect, Linebox Studio.
